The author’s writing is compelling and pulls the reader into the scenes as she chronicles her and her teenage daughter, Veronica’s, horrific accident resulting in traumatic brain injuries for both of them. The story focuses mainly on Veronica, the severity of her TBI and the arduous rehabilitation that ensued. During the over 3-months Veronica spent in the hospital, mom, Dawn, never missed a visit while healing from her own TBI and broken bones.
Writing about the deep struggles they both went through, and still today, to a lesser extent, Dawn could only be thankful to have her daughter alive in whatever form that may be. As doctors told them to prepare for the worst, they believed in the highest outcome, and against popular opinion, Veronica walked out of the hospital.
The family’s love, faith, and perseverance are unmatched and inspiring to anybody struggling. The way the Corbelli’s handled this tragedy is admirable and has left me wanting to be better. I highly recommend this book.
