What Will Happen When…?

I find it very easy to talk about death.

Since our brain injuries and all we have gone through, I have learned to lean on the Lord in good times and bad. I thank Him daily for our blessings and I also know in the rare times I need it, He will carry me when I cannot carry myself. Thankfully that hasn’t been necessary since Veronica was hospitalized after her severe brain injury, 16 years ago.

We were giving our Wills attention to make sure they are up to date.

Greg becomes very grumpy whenever I talk about when we leave this Earth… I feel the need to talk about my wishes and about what will happen to Veronica. Because we have Guardianship of her, at times I need to be reassured that she will be loved and taken care of when we go. There are so many what if’s.

I know we are more fortunate than most in our situation because Veronica has our older daughter, her sister, who loves her very dearly, to be by her side, to take care of her, and to protect her.

Kylie is not married yet, but before she gets serious with anyone, she informs them that if we pass, Veronica is part of the package. I love that. Talking about things helps me process them, even when it comes to our deaths.

We need to set up a Special Needs Trust for Veronica and haven’t yet. Greg’s Will is notarized in a couple places mine isn’t. The same person set up our Wills, but they are a little different.

We will be able to talk to someone about both the Trust and our Wills soon.

But what I think is, “I hope we don’t die before that is taken care of.”

If there is one thing I learned well by our car accident, the results and the change in us, our family dynamic, and our lives,

LIFE CAN CHANGE IN A SPLIT SECOND!

We really need to take care of these things as soon as possible.

Just food for thought.

If you would like to know more about our lives as we live with brain injuries, I have written about the first 12 years of our recovery.

My book is titled,

A Miracle A Day, One Day at A Time Hope After Traumatic Brain Injury

The following link will take you straight there if you are interested.

Parents, guardians, caregivers, we need to take care of these things sooner than later.

Have a blessed week.
