There are so many details.
It’s hard to make choices.
I want to go camping with my two grown daughters and as you know Veronica and I have brain injuries. My older daughter feels responsible for taking care of us, for our safety, and she must spend extra energy just needing to repeat herself so many times, in order for us to understand.
But she said yes! Kylie said she will camp just us girls! I’M SO HAPPY! She will do the driving, putting up the tent, and building the fires because she is good at all that, but we will help.
-Veronica wants to be by water
-Kylie wants sunshine
-I want smores
My job was to make the reservations. Usually, Greg takes care of things like that, but this is OUR Trip.
There were so many choices. Choices are hard for me.
- I first talked to Greg about a place and then I chose one.
- I started by looking up the phone number of the place on Google.
- I called and started out by asking if there were any openings.
- The lady on the phone asked, “Cabin or tent camping?”
- I asked if it was a shady lot or a sunny lot?
- I asked if there were any lakes nearby.
- “Would you like your car in a nearby parking lot, or in your camp site?” she asked.
- “Would you like a fire pit or just a grill?” she asked.
- “Is there a fire ban?” I asked.
This is what I came up with:
We will be in a shady campsite with our car next to us. We will be by a lake where there is no swimming, only fishing- fishing is $9 a day. We can still sit in the sun there. There will be a picnic table next to our tent. We will have a fire pit where we can make smores.
Check in is at 1pm, check out is at 11am. There are bathrooms, no showers.
I prepaid for the reservation for two nights. We received a map in my email, and we are ready to go.
It’s a win! I did it by myself! Without help! Even Veronica excitedly said, “Great job mom!”
I feel accomplished!
Planning things step by step really helps you remember the details needed to succeed.
