Maybe she was having a bad day
So many, even some military medical technicians, don’t understand anything about brain injuries. I don’t know why I am so surprised, but I surely am.
I took Veronica to a doctor’s appointment on the military base near us, and the tech was asking Veronica questions. Veronica did not answer quickly enough, I guess. During a short silence while Veronica was trying to think of the answer, the tech kept clicking her pen impatiently and she turned to me pretty immediately and asked me the question. I told the tech that Veronica has a severe brain injury and just needs a few seconds to gather her thoughts. I answered that question, and she kept asking the questions too quickly for Veronica to answer. Veronica sat with her head down. When the tech went to leave the room, I said, “When someone has a brain injury, you need to be more patient so they can answer you.”
SHE SLAMMED THE DOOR on her way out. I spoke to the provider about it, and she said she would speak to the tech, but holy cow!
